Pathfinder Includes New 32 Location Unity
Program
Unity 32 is now a standard component of the Pathfinder communication aid. The
Unity Tour Guide and Vocabulary Sort include documentation to support the new
Unity 32 software.
Unity 32 actually includes two integrated versions. The first version includes
primarily "Single-Hit" words to provide a very simple introduction
to the vocabulary. The "Sequenced" version provides access to an expanded
vocabulary by sequencing the icons.
Designed exclusively for the Pathfinder communication aid, Unity 32 makes full
use of all the hardware and software features of this exciting device.
Who will benefit from "Unity 32"?
Any individual with visual or motor impairments may find the larger graphics
and larger keys in the Unity 32 program easier to access than the 128 version.
This program might be considered as a starting point for very young augmented
communicators and for individuals with moderate to severe cognitive challenges.
Utilizing Unity language software, a user can transition to the 128 version
without having to relearn a vocabulary system.
How many words does the program contain?
The Single-Hit Vocabulary contains 2100 "root" words. "Like"
is a root word to which you can add word endings to create additional words
such as "likes," so the 2100 root word vocabulary quickly increases.
The Sequenced Vocabulary includes the 2100 root words, plus 200 "Core"
words and phrases. Access to the vocabulary in Unity 32 is faster because of
fewer keystrokes.
What are the differences between the Single-Hit and Sequenced Vocabularies?
The Unity 32 Single-Hit Vocabulary uses one key selection in the Core Vocabulary
to produce a word. With the Sequenced Vocabulary, two or more keys can be used,
which increases the number of possible words in the Core Vocabulary.
In the Single-Hit Vocabulary, one selection causes items to appear in the Activity
Row. In the Sequenced version, this happens on first selecting a key, but selecting
a second key reveals a new set of vocabulary items, allowing you easy access
to additional vocabulary.
32 Single-Hit to 32 Sequenced
The Unity 32 program enables a user to transition naturally from Singe-Hit to
Sequenced Vocabulary. The same icons are used in the same locations for both
versions.
32 Sequenced to 128-Location
Unity software allows users to expand their vocabulary without learning a new
system. From the Unity 32 program of a few thousand words, a user can transition
to the power of the Unity 128 program with a potential of over 5,000 words.
These programs use the same icons, the same icon sequences for vocabulary, and
similar icon locations.
Unity 32 includes . . .
