ChatBox40

ChatBox40 is the latest family of cost-effective voice output devices. These attractive, durable products offer features that meet one’s growing communication needs, from very basic stages to the point of combining words and creating simple sentences.

Four Models Suit a Range of
Needs & Capabilities

• The basic ChatBox40 allows digitized (recorded)
messages to be spoken by pressing buttons on the
keyboard. It also supports numerous switch-scanning
options for individuals who are unable to press
buttons. The device comes with both 10- and
40-location keyboards. Messages can be stored on
10 separate overlays. A two-line, LCD display supports
text display of the digitized messages and menu-driven
setup utilities.

ChatBox40-XT adds basic voice synthesis capability.
Individuals may create their own messages on the LCD
display using either pre-stored messages or by typing
on an alphabet keyboard. The ChatBox40-XT also
features auditory scanning and keyboard emulation.

• The ChatBox40 PLUS and ChatBox40-XT PLUS add additional language features to the ChatBox40
products, allowing messages to be stored as single-hits
or as combinations of symbols.

ChatBox40 PLUS and ChatBox40-XT PLUS also come with the “TalkToday” vocabulary program, a strategy using pictures and words that are relevant to emerging communicators. Created by a practicing therapist and tested by clinicians around the country, TalkToday allows children to:

• practice with words from different word groups to
figure out what those words mean in different
situations (semantics);
• produce word combinations using two or three
words in a sentence-like order (syntax);
• fine-tune the meaning of words by changing the
word slightly (morphology).
