• The basic ChatBox40 allows digitized (recorded)
messages to be spoken by pressing buttons on the
keyboard. It also supports numerous switch-scanning
options for individuals who are unable to press
buttons. The device comes with both 10- and
40-location keyboards. Messages can be stored on
10 separate overlays. A two-line, LCD display supports
text display of the digitized messages and menu-driven
setup utilities.

• ChatBox40-XT adds basic voice synthesis capability.
Individuals may create their own messages on the LCD
display using either pre-stored messages or by typing
on an alphabet keyboard. The ChatBox40-XT also
features auditory scanning and keyboard emulation.

• The ChatBox40 PLUS and ChatBox40-XT PLUS add additional language features to the ChatBox40
products, allowing messages to be stored as single-hits
or as combinations of symbols.

• ChatBox40 PLUS and ChatBox40-XT PLUS also come with the “TalkToday” vocabulary program, a strategy using pictures and words that are relevant to emerging communicators. Created by a practicing therapist and tested by clinicians around the country, TalkToday allows children to:

• practice with words from different word groups to
figure out what those words mean in different
situations (semantics);
• produce word combinations using two or three
words in a sentence-like order (syntax);
• fine-tune the meaning of words by changing the
word slightly (morphology).
