Prentke Romich Company has partnered with AbleNet for a smooth integration between Vantage and Vanguard users and the first ever research-based literacy program, MEville to WEville. This program meaningfully and systematically integrates reading, writing, speaking, augmentative communicating, and listening for elementary students with disabilities in the moderate to severe range.

Teachers, parents, speech therapists, and other team members who are teaching literacy skills will find Unity Lesson Adaptations to be a valuable teaching tool.
MEville to WEville is for students with disabilities who have difficulties learning to read and write through traditional methods. The purpose of this curriculum is to help the Vantage or Vanguard user participate in and learn language from the MEville learning activities using their communication device.

Research was conducted by Dr. Karen Erickson and her associate Sally Clendon in the Spring of 2004 that substantiated the effectiveness of the MEville to WEville: Early Literacy and Communication Curriculum. The Prentke Romich lesson adaptations for this curriculum, written by Jean Walsh, are designed to support students who use a Vantage or a Vanguard to speak and write.

Easy adaptation for Vantage and Vanguard users!
Therapists and teachers need only to print the lesson adaptations from the PRC disk and insert them into the MEville curriculum book before planning each lesson. Easy step-by-step instructions for how to teach vocabulary specific to the lessons are included on the disk.

Simple charts for a Word Wall adapted for Vantage and Vanguard are also included on the CD.

Ideas for teaching Unity!
Parents, teachers, and SLPs will have access to cheat sheets of icon sequences, pre-stored notebooks for student scripts, and many ideas for teaching the Unity vocabulary in Vantage and Vanguard.

MEville to WEville Curriculum Adapted for PRC Devices
MEville to WEville is for students with disabilities who have difficulties learning to read and write through traditional methods. The Unity Lesson Adaptations make MEville to WEville available to Vantage and Vanguard students.

What do you need to get started?
In addition to the MEville to WEville curriculum, Vantage and Vanguard students will need the Lesson Adaptations CD from Prentke Romich Company. The lesson adaptations may then be printed and inserted into the MEville book. It will also be helpful to transfer the MEville MTI files (included on the CD) into the Vantage or Vanguard. The CD includes basic "how to" information to make implementing this program fast and immediately effective in the classroom.
